Recap of August

Welcome to Hotlanta, especially when it comes to the month of August. This year was no exception.

Year of the Jack calendar

Go-Go go! Calendar Contest

Speaking of hot … We kicked off our first-ever calendar contest via GoGo. We had never done one before and we weren’t really sure how it would go. We just knew that other rescues had successfully raised funds this way, and it was a great way to engage Terrier lovers all over the world.

And, boy did it! We had a great competition between a plethora of entrants, all battling it out for the cover and monthly spots over the next three months. When it was all said and done, we had some big help from our print sponsors and our paper sponsor and were able to take home some bones for the rescue.

The calendars were released in November and the first round literally flew out the door in a matter of days. The second run is now available. Get yours before they’re all gone.

And, yes, we do believe we’re going to do this again next year!

Rocky and mom on adoption day

Rocky Goes Home

We love to see all of our dogs get adopted, but some are just so special. It’s usually because they are overlooked, or they’ve been with us for a long time, or they have a small health issue that scares people away … or all of the above.

Rocky was one of those dogs. He, like Dixie and Hannah, was one of the original members of the “Exodus Six” group, who were abandoned at an out-of-state rescue and left to die in early 2013. He is such a wonderful dog and a Team Russell pick, but he just kept getting overlooked. It may have been because he had a metabolism issue. Poor thing just doesn’t gain weight easily, no matter how much he ate. Such a problem to have, we know. But, unfortunately, it does when you’re a tall, lanky fellow. He wasn’t a young gun, either, so that was another strike.

We needed help finding him a home, so who else should we turn to than Susie’s Senior Dogs. We’ve always had major success through her wonderful site/Facebook page … and this was no exception! He’s now known as Buster. We’ll let his awesome mom, Mary, update you thoroughly on how this boy is doing. (And, yes — he’s gained weight! Yay!)

Hunter Goes Home

Hunter was another awesome dog who waited longer than he should have for his forever home. He was absolutely as sweet as could be with humans and a Team Russell pick. He was very loving and patient, loved to play ball, loved to sit on your lap, loved to do just about anything you wanted to do. But other dogs made him nervous (even though he initially arrived from the kill shelter with his “brother,” Parker.) Sometimes he was OK with them, sometimes he wasn’t, so he needed to be an only dog … which, again, always delays the adoption process.

That’s OK, he was just waiting to find the perfect parents in Carlos and Somaris … and, boy, did he ever! We think the photos in his happy tail say it all.
