Give Chance Another Chance

Chance needs a new home where he can be top dog ... and the only dog.

Chance needs a new home where he can be top dog … and the only dog.

Chance needs another chance. He was graciously given a second one—and his name—a little over a year ago by a couple of our huge-hearted volunteers/supporters. He was found running … not neutered or tagged/chipped, scarred from being attacked, wearing thin fur and dealing with skin issues. They took him into their home, helped heal him and gave him everything any good dog deserves.

Unfortunately, he has a little more than he can deal with right now.

As much as he loves his humans, he has not overcome some issues from his previous life: He isn’t a fan of other male dogs and he especially doesn’t care for them when there is a female around. Unfortunately, he is currently in a home with both a brother, who has been with the family for years, and a sister, who has very special health needs.

Several trainers have been consulted and assessed the situation; they have all recommended, to his family’s greatest dismay, that he be rehomed into a single-dog environment where he does not have to compete for attention or deal with same-sex issues. That recommendation broke their hearts, so they have tried daily to keep everyone separated, leaving Chance alone at times and crying for human attention. It’s not working, and they know the situation is not fair to anyone. It’s breaking their hearts, but they know they have to let their baby go to a better home.

We are at-capacity right now and would hate for Chance to return back to the homeless life he lived before they rescued him anyway. He loves being in a home with people and does fine otherwise.

If you or someone you know can help Chance find a new home where he can be more comfortable and love the second life he’s been given, please contact his mom. (Please note: He is not at our rescue.) They want only the best for him and are willing to help with food, vet bills, etc. to find him the happiness he deserves, if needed.

West Virginia Jacks Need Homes

We no longer provide courtesy or third-party posts because of potential legal issues, but are making an exception in this case. These two sweethearts are located in Huntington, West Virginia, and were saved from the shelter by a group of big-hearted volunteers. They are in temporary foster, but need forever homes as soon as possible. We do not have any funds or room to take them, but wanted to get them out there to be shared far and wide. Please, help us get the word out.

Opal is around 6 years old. She is an awesome dog who is housetrained and gets along wonderfully with children (as you can tell from the photo below). She likes to fetch, play with toys and do tricks. She gets along with other dogs, but not cats.

Skippy is around 2-3 years old. He was just pulled, so his temperament is being tested, but he appears to be housetrained.

Both are very small Jacks. They will be spayed/neutered before adoption and are up-to-date on shots. For more information, please contact Christina at (304) 521-7281 or christinascarberry@gmail.com. We do not have additional information; they are not located at our rescue.

Marvelous Mutts Need New Home

Layla and her baby, Jack, need a new lease on life. They may not be all Jack, but that’s OK: We love those wonderful mutt mixes, too.

They were both running stray (no collars, no chips) when a big-hearted couple in Locust Grove, Ga., took them in. Their foster parents have made every attempt to find their humans to no avail. They have been treating Mom for heartworm (very mild case) and raising baby, but have two dogs of their own and are expecting a baby soon; therefore, they are unable to keep them permanently. It’s time to find them a new home or homes. They do not have to be adopted together, but it would be great because they are so close.

Below are some photos and information about each of them that we received from their foster family. If you are interested in one or either, please contact the phone number and email at the end of the post. This is a third-party adoption opportunity. They are not at our rescue.

Layla

Layla is a 3-year-old (approximate) sweet, sweet beagle mix.  She showed up as a stray, but has now been spayed and vaccinated (DHLPP & Rabies).  She is ready for a real home with people who will love her forever.  Layla warms up very quickly to friendly people, and will be a very loyal companion to whoever is lucky enough to have her.  She is very calm and well-behaved.  She stays in a crate politely, but really doesn’t need to be crated.  This is really a great, deserving, sweet girl;  she does no wrong. I can’t say enough good things about her.  She stands just below my knee height (I’m 5’4″) and weighs about 45 lbs.  She is heartworm positive at this time (according to the vet she has a light infestation of heart worms), but is on a treatment program and will make a full recovery.  All she requires is a monthly HeartGuard Plus to continue her treatment.

[nggallery id=105]

Jack

Jack is Layla’s baby. The vet guessed his age to be about 14 weeks. He is incredibly friendly and playful, but also sweet and snuggly. He rides in cars nicely and is good around horses, too. He loves to play with our two permanent dogs. He comes when called and generally stays close to you at all times. He is also very smart, I believe. He has an appointment to be vaccinated and neutered on June 22.

Buddy and Roger (Still) Need a Home

We originally ran this story in February and had hoped that no news was good news, but we found out today that these boys still need a home – and quickly! They originally had a worst-case scenario backup, which has now fallen through. If you can help out a military family and give a sweet boy or two a home, please read the story and contact Sonya at the information provided below.

Roger and Buddy Need a New Home

These two sweethearts need a new home. Although it doesn’t have to be together, they have spent so many years of their lives together that it would be wonderful if they could stay together. Their family, who just adores them, has to move with the military and are not allowed to take them. They are heartbroken, as you can imagine. We are still at capacity and unable to take anyone, so please cross-post and let’s see if we can find these boys a place to go.

If you are interested in either one or both or need more information, please contact Sonya at 253-495-8451 or email her at chipallensgirl@hotmail.com. They are currently living at Fort Benning.

Buddy

  • Buddy – ACA Jack Russel Born 3/20/2005 – White with small spot of red on right ear
  • Shots are current
  • Neutered male
  • Potty trained
  • Travels well
  • Born in Washington
  • Negative heart worm
  • No fleas or ticks

The family will provide a kennel, bedding and a $50 card to Petsmart for supplies.

Buddy is a very friendly and outgoing dog. He enjoys being around people, especially children, and other dogs. He loves to play fetch with his ball and, if asked to spin while offering a cookie, will do a twirl on his back legs. He loves the water and enjoys swimming. He has a low energy level for his breed, but maintains a playful personality. He loves to cuddle and be petted. He had one surgery for ingesting a piece of a toy but has not had further issues with eating objects. He has no issues with barking excessively or going to the vet. He does not have problems around children or infants. He is the perfect family dog.

Roger (aka Baby Roger)

  • UKC Rat Terrier Born 04/24/2006 – red and white
  • Shots are current
  • Neutered male
  • Potty trained
  • Travels well
  • Born in Washington
  • Negative heart worm
  • No fleas or ticks

The family will provide a kennel, bedding and a $50 card to Petsmart for supplies.

Roger is a very silly dog. He loves to cuddle and will curl up next to you or on your lap if you let him. He loves to play snatch the ball from his brother, Buddy, but when he wins at that game, he really doesn’t know what else to do with the ball. He has a mild temperament and low energy level for his breed. He is very protective and a great guard dog. He only barks when someone is at the door or window. He is a personable dog after a proper introduction is made. He loves to play and be petted, but prefers adults over children. He does not like to swim, but enjoys a good bath. He is a spirited dog and very loyal. He has never had any health issues. He does have a bit of anxiety when it comes to storms, so he stays in his kennel in the house when we are expecting bad weather. No problems with visiting the vet. He is a wonderful and loving dog.

New Facebook Group for Crossposts

Our third-party posts on our websites and Facebook have become overwhelming. This is not a bad thing, of course; lots of little Jack lives are getting saved while we are at capacity and low on funds. However, many others are getting lost on the Facebook timeline, or confusion arises when adoptive parties think these Jacks are at our rescue.

To alleviate some of this, please join our new Facebook group, Save a Jack, and share all cross-posts, shelter dogs, found/wanted dogs, etc. there moving forward. We will continue to promote the group on our pages, so visitors know to look there as well for Jacks in need.

Thank you – and post on!

Skipper - Missing Jack Russell rescue in Anderson, South Caroline

Let’s Find Skippy in South Carolina

Yes, we are Georgia Jack Russell Rescue, but we can’t stand hearing about a missing Jack, especially one from another rescue who needs medication. That has happened to us and it’s heartbreaking, so let’s hope the post helps and we bring Skipper home!

Skipper - Missing Jack Russell rescue in Anderson, South Carolina

Skipper has gone missing in the Anderson, S.C., area around Hwy. 187 and 181. He was living in a foster home for Upstate Animal Rescue Foundation. His foster family had him locked up tight inside the home when they left, but he managed to knock out a screen and escaped.

He is a male JRT about 10 pounds with two newly shaved spots off his back, where he just received heartworm treatment. He is fully vaccinated and chipped, but he was not wearing his collar at the time. He is friendly and will come to almost anyone.

Alerts have been placed with the newspaper, county/surrounding counties and animal control. A reward has also been offered for his return. The rescue has a big adoption event this weekend and can’t get full charge of things unit they know he’s back, safe and sound.

If you have any information regarding him, please contact Kelley Blair, director of Upstate Animal Rescue, at kblair01017@yahoo.com.

Mom and Babies Need Homes ASAP

PLEASE NOTE: This is a courtesy post. These pups are not located at our rescue. They are in a kill shelter.

This precious Terrier mix mom and her babies need homes ASAP. They are located at Elbert Co. Animal County, a small, rural shelter that has few intakes and even fewer adoptions. Their human surrendered them, but we are told they are all very adoptable.

Mom (#5721) is a friendly girl of about 23 lbs. She has a litter (#5722-5727) of 10- to 12-week-old babies with her – four females and 2 males, all approximately 10 lbs. Some are short-haired, some long; one (#5724) has a wiry terrier coat.

If you can save any or all of them, please contact volunteer svkinsey2002@yahoo.com.

Please share. Let’s try to save this little family!

Deb Needs Another Chance

This precious girl needs a new home. She is not at a our rescue. Please read her heartbreaking story and share. If you are interested in adopting her, please contact us at jrtadoptions@gmail.com and we will connect with you the individuals who currently have her.

“This sweet Jack Russell was dumped out near my parents home in late January. She was well taken care of so my folks took her in and cared for her while we searched for her family. We were not successful in finding her family so my folks took over her care. We took her to our vet and gave her all of her shots, got her on heartworm and flea prevention and since she was just finishing a heat cycle, we had her spayed (we wondered if she was dumped because she was in heat).

Because of health issues, my parents are no longer able to care for her. My dad had brain surgery 2 years ago to remove a tumor and we have just learned it has returned. My mom also has severe arthritis and is having a hard time getting around. With uncertain days ahead for us, my folks felt like they needed to find a new home for the dog.

She is a very affectionate, housetrained, not a barker, but does seem to want to be the “only” dog in the family. She weighs about 13 lbs. Not sure of her age – the vet wasn’t sure but she is definitely an adult. She is a bit timid and loud noises scare her.”

Add a Little Florida Cash to Your Pack

Meet Cash. He was found abandoned near Cash Creek in Apalachicola, Florida, by some folks out for a boat ride. He had heartworms, was malnourished and had, essentially, been left on the island to die. They picked him up and took him home to heal.

[nggallery id=83]

His heartworm was treated and he was neutered, brought up to date on shots and microchipped. Now that family who saved him has to move to California and cannot take him with them. They would love nothing more for him to stay in his home state of Florida, if possible.

He is about 3-5 years old and is around 30 lbs. The family says he is incredibly sweet. If you would like more information about him, please email bjterhune@gmail.com for details.

shortie, jack russell terrier, rescue, adoptable, hilton head

Go, Shortie, Go!

shortie, jack russell terrier, rescue, adoptable, hilton head

This is Shortie. As you can tell from his poor, little face, he’s had some challenges to overcome. He was found wandering the streets, very neglected, and was taken in by Hilton Head Humane Association. They treated him for heartworms, an injury to his face, flea allergy dermatitis and worms. Whew!

He is now healing nicely and has received all of his vaccinations. Hilton Head is a no-kill shelter, but this sweet boy has obviously had a tough life so far. They have reached out to all of us to help him find the home he deserves. Let’s not let him spend the rest of his life in a shelter.

If you want to give this little guy the life he deserves, please call 843-681-8686 or email adoptions@hhhumane.org. (He is not at our rescue)

Boston Babies Need Homes

We just received some photos of a few of the Boston Terriers who survived the Flashpoint Kennel fire. We don’t have a lot of info on them yet, but wanted to go ahead and share photos of these sweethearts. They are currently in boarding, but need new homes ASAP. If you are interested in providing any of them a good home, please call us at 770-918-8582 for more information.

Sweet Sofie Needs Someone

We are still at capacity and unable to take on any new rescues because of the Flashpoint situation, so this is a third-party post for adoption/foster.

This is Sofie and this is her story from her Mom, who hates to have to let her go, but wants her to have a good life. She is 26 lbs., UTD on all shots and spayed. Temperament is great; she just isn’t able to have the human contact she deserves on a daily basis.

If you would like to foster or adopt her, please contact Nancy at ntonline@cox.net. She is not at our rescue.

[nggallery id=53]

“Some folks in Macon suggested I contact you about adopting out my dog Sofie. Sofie is a calm but outgoing and energetic 10-year-old Jack. For the first five years of her life, I worked part-time, but now I have taken a full time job. Until last year Sofie spent half of her week with my sister and her dog, cats and children, while I was working. However, my sister and family have moved, so Sofie’s world has become quite small. (I have a fenced in yard, where Sofie stays when I’m at work.)

About a year ago, my neighbor called me to say that Sofie was whining and crying (not barking) in the afternoons or evenings before I got home. We thought it might be the winter darkness or my hours, so I tried several strategies to improve the situation. I’ve always exercised her, but I also changed her diet and my leaving and returning routines. I thought I had “solved” the problem.

Within the past two months, my original neighbor, plus two others. have told me that Sofie is crying still, apparently for extended periods. She exhibits no separation anxiety when I leave in the morning. She is just too lonely and her world is too small for such an intelligent dog, as there will be weeks when I am the only living thing she spends time with.

We tried having my sister’s dog live with us, but that didn’t seem to solve the situation.

Sofie is healthy, trained, and has been loved all of her life. She will sit and wait for food or treats until given permission to eat, and she will not go into “off limits” rooms. Her favorite thing is chasing tennis balls on land or in water. Please help me find a new home where she will be happy.

Thank you for considering my situation. I love my puppy and want the best for her.”

Daisy is Desperate

This is Daisy and she desperately needs help. She was abandoned in really bad shape, including a skin infection that had ravaged her body. A concerned family took her in several months ago and nursed her back to health. She lost one of her legs, but is in otherwise great condition now.

Unfortunately, she has several strikes against her: She is not good with children and other dogs and gets aggressive with them. She has had some obedience training, but is still having problems overcoming her past. She needs a home that is quiet and does not have other dogs or children.

We are, unfortunately, at capacity and will not have room for months. If the family cannot resolve this, she will be taken to animal control and, most likely, put down. We know a lot of people with huge hearts, so we are reaching out to you.

If you can help this little girl find a life she deserves, please contact Carey Griffith at 404-245-6226 or email careygrif@gmail.com.
