Ready for some spectacular news? Here goes! If there was ever a match made in heaven, it’s this one — and we are giddy at the mere mention of it!

As many of you know, Penny “Long-Nose/Tail” had been at our rescue for almost a year (and at another rescue previous to ours). She has always been happy and healthy, but screamed at the top of her lungs any time anyone came to visit. She wanted out to play, she wanted to go home with someone … and she wanted everyone to know it. Once she was out of that kennel, however, she was a perfect gem, learning everything from agility to kicking butt in the JRT practice races at the rescue.

We all knew this wasn’t the right environment for her to meet potential adopters. She needed to be in her element in a stable home, out and about with people, for them to see the real Penny — feisty but fun, sweet and, well, just otherwise fabulous. She needed to be in foster care, so, Carson and Cobb’s parents, Mike and Lily, stepped up, took her home and began what has become known as “Project Penny.” This entailed taking her out into public as much as possible—either on outings with the boys or trips to social events by herself—to meet people.

She was a wonderful houseguest and respectful to her foster brothers during the time she was with them. They took her to their doggy daycare, DogPhoria a few times per week since she loves playing with other dogs, and it was a good place for her to burn some off some of that awesome energy … and that’s where Suzy and Bob came into the picture!

They had, had their dog, Mark (don’t you love the name?), a playful and energetic JRT/Bassett mix, for about a year and a half, and had recently began thinking about getting Mark a friend. The staff at the daycare knew that Penny was a foster and was looking for a good home, and after they saw Penny and Mark playing so well together, they asked Suzy and Bob to come meet her. Shortly after, Suzy and Bob completed an application, we went to their house for a home check, and the rest is history!

It was pretty much love at first sight. They were both smitten, and playtime began almost immediately. They haven’t stopped chasing one another—or cuddling—since! They are both around the same age, both have the same prey drive (Mark has caught mice, birds, and chipmunks; Penny came to our rescue because she went after a chicken at her previous rescue) and energy level, and they even look alike! As mom Suzy put it, the timing really was “serendipitous!”

And now it’s official — Penny (she will keep her name) has found her forever paradise. These two are the perfect match, and are an example of when two dogs really need each other. Their parents are such special people, too, and we couldn’t have asked for more for our sweet, funny, smart and active girl. She will have a wonderful life!
