In Memory of Roxy

She was my friend. I (we) loved her and she loved me (us) back.

Roxy was a part of the family and my little “co-pirate.”

Roxy loved people. She loved being around and with people.

Of course, that was after she got to know you…at least a little.

She was very bossy with the other dogs. She kept Cooley, another of our “fur babies” who is memorialized here as well, in line.

She was my constant companion. Everywhere I went, as long as she was able, she followed. Whenever she came home she went room to room looking for me. When I was gone on a trip she went looking for me.

She was always ready for action. I called her my “Ready Roxy.”

She was very smart. I could see her “thinking” about things and solving problems. She whizzed through the agility training when she was little and always remembered her tricks to the end.

She was playful and active, as long as her little body held out.

She was brave. Even after she had her first stroke, when we brought her home from the emergency vet where she spent 4 days, she gamely tried to get up and walk and I created a sling for her with a towel so she could regain her strength. And she did.

The vets were all amazed by her recovery and her will to live.

And live she did.

Roxy

I remember when we traveled to a horse show in North Carolina and (unexpectedly and impulsively) I told my daughter Haley she could pick out one of the litter of Jack Russel puppies to bring home. She chose Roxy.

She loved being around us from the start. She grew up with my daughter, went away to school and it wasn’t until my daughter came back from school that she decided to “adopt me.” I’m not certain why she did except I was home a lot of the time and so she just chose me. I’m glad she did.

She loved running and chasing the ball and playing “squeaker.” She loved pulling the cord on her little rabbit to make him dance around

She moaned at me to get me away from the computer and come play with her. She barked at co-workers when I got on Skype so that I would ignore them and play with her.

She loved riding with me in the car, going into stores, going through the drive-through, hiking with us, and she loved riding in the boat (we live on Lake Lanier) and digging in the sand here on the lake, or at the beach. She loved digging up “X Marks the Spot” I created with my toe in the sand.

Every time I took her on the boat or in the car she gave me a kiss on the cheek because of sheer joy.

Roxy, from all of your family, it was a pleasure and a joy to be your friend and “co-pirate”, your protector and playmate, your focal point of affection, friendship and care.

I’m (we’re) glad for the years and happy times we had together and I hope this memorial gift eases the life for other Jack Russell’s who perhaps are not as fortunate as you.

I’m glad we were able to give you a good life. You certainly repaid us many times over.

See you in heaven (say hello to Cooley and all our other furry friends for us)

Love forever,

Jeff, Dot, Haley, Brett and the rest of the family she loved
