It it with much sadness that we share that Treasure did not make it.

You didn’t know this sweet girl well, but we did. And, sadly, we knew when we first welcomed this girl last month after spending her 15 years(!) in a breeding kennel, that the chances of her survival were slim. We knew right away she was sick, not just old. We have plenty of former breeding 15-year-olds (just ask Eli, Elanor and Slick) who are as feisty as pups. But they were “retired” from breeding early. They were never asked to spend their entire lives making babies until (literally) their organs gave out and/or their breeders grew sick and had to give them up to animal control or rescue.

When Treasure arrived last month, her uterus had fluid in it, and her teeth were rotten. We wanted so badly to get those poison things out of her body and make her feel better to enjoy a wonderful life for 5-10 more years, but antibiotics and fluids could not stabilize her enough to remove them. She passed yesterday on her own. It was too much for her heart to go on.

As sad as this is, know that she was loved in her final days, and Mama Donna and Dr. Wright did everything to make her comfortable and feel loved.

Without stepping on a soapbox, we will just encourage everyone again to please —  adopt, don’t shop. Rescue dogs are not broken and have so much to offer. But, if you must have a “purebred” Jack, please seek out reputable breeders who are registered and only have one or two litters. Treasure’s story is one  of irresponsibility, greed and neglect that leads to unnecessary suffering of such beautiful dogs in the name of “pretty puppies.”
